Mr. E. E.
ATHERTON and Miss
Nettic CONN
were happily united in bonds of matrimony, Thursday evening of last week,
at the residence of the bride’s parents. Rev. Wm. T. Hill of the Baptist
Church, performed the ceremony. Only a few relatives and friends
were present to witness the happy event. The bride is the only daughter
of Mr. And Mrs. John Conn, highly respected citizens, formerly of Juda
but now residents of this village. She is one of the best of the
many good girls recently married, and those to be married, with which Albany
is blessed. Mr. Atherton is a son of Walgrave Aatherton, an old and
highly respected citizen, and an extensive farmer of the town of Decatur.
He is well and favorably known in this vicinity, having learned the printers
trade in this office and during the summer was one of the editors and proprietors
of the Vindicator. We join with their many friends in congratulations,
and in wishing them a long and prosperous journey through life.

Married—One of the prettiest little
weddings which the writer has ever had the pleasure of witnessing took
place Tuesday afternoon at the home of Mr. And Mrs. L. Franklin MOORE,
the occasion being the marriage of their daughter, Ella
J. to Mr. N. Roy BOWMAN
of this village. Precisely at 4:00 the couple stepped into the parlor
doorway under a canopy of lace hangings and autumn decorations, where they
were received by the Rev. H.B. Gibbons and the marriage ceremony performed.
After congratulations from those present the party sat down to a table
loaded with good things and did ample justice to the wedding supper.
The bride wore a French blue serge, trimmed with white silk and lace.
Those present from abroad were: Mr. And Mrs. A.S. Bowman of Lodi,
parents of the groom, and Mr. R. Bowman of Madison, brother of the groom.
Those from Albany were Mr. And Mrs. Arthur Moore and children, Miss Clara
Comstock, Rev. and Mrs. H.B. Gibbons. After supper the bride donned
a handsome blue-gray traveling suit and, with the groom, departed for parts
unknown. The presents were numerous and useful as well as beautiful.
The bride and groom being from among Albany’s best known and most highly
respected young people, we take pleasure in extending to them our hearty
congratulations and best wishes. H.B.G.

Cupid’s Captive—The occasion of the
marriage of Miss Carrie CARVER, youngest
daughter of our townsman, J.W. Carver, and Hassan
PUTNAM, son of H.D. Putnam, an old residence of this place;
also Mr. Frank Burt, son of E.J. Burt and Miss Lottie Putnam, who is the
only daughter of Mr. Putnam. When it became known Thursday eve, among
the younger social circles of which they were among the leaders that they
were so soon to embark on the sea of matrimony in that most noted of all
crafts for carrying passengers called hyman, with the cunning Cupid for
captain, bound for the land of golden hopes and fond realizations, there
was a general flurry of excitement. The darkness and occasional patter
of rain drops, without only made a more pleasing contrast to the gaity
within. There was a merry party that gathered at J.W. Carver’s
residence, the home of the bride, mostly relatives and near friends of
this young couple, to bid them “God speed” on their untried journey, and
numerous were the tokens of affection and esteem bestowed upon the worthy
pair. The bride was prettily and becomingly attired in brown silk,
the groom in the conventional black. After the ceremony, which was
performed by Rev. Jas. Lawson, and the congratulations of friends, refreshments
were served, after which the merry laugh and joyous song of the wedding
party was heard until a late hour. Mr. Frank Burt and Miss Lottie
Putnam, thinking, possibly, the knot would not be as closely tied were
it a double one, after witnessing the ceremony uniting Hassan and Carrie,
repaired to their carriage awaiting outside at precisely half past eight
o’clock when they were driven to the M.E. parsonage and there speedily
made one. The brides are both esteemed for their many virtues and
loved for their gentleness and amiability, and the young men whom they
have promised to “love, honor and obey” are in every way worthy the prizes
they have won.

ROGERS and Miss
Abbie DAVIS,
both of Albany, Rev. O.P. Bestor of Evansville officiating. Loving
friends of the bride had tastefully decorated the church with plants, flowers,
vines, etc., until it was a veritable floral bower and no fairer scene
could have been devised for the union of hearts and hands. The impressive
ceremony was witnessed by a large concourse of relatives and friends.
Owing to the accident that recently occurred by which the bride’s hand
s and arms had been seriously burned, the customary congratulations were
necessarily dispense with, but none the less the happy couple had the best
wishes of all in this most important epoch in their lives. Rev. Rogers
is a comparative stranger here, having been pastor of the Baptist Church
less than a year, but that he has created a favorable impression in at
least one heart is self-evident. The bride is the younger daughter
of Mr. And Mrs. Edward Davis, an accomplished young lady, a leader in church
work and society, and beloved by all who know her. Mr. And Mrs. Rogers
had expected to take a trip through the east, but owing to the accident
referred to above, the trip is necessarily postponed for a time.
