Maude Ethel PATTERSON was born in York Co., Neb., Dec. 6, 1872 and died at the home of Mrs. E.M. Peebles, near Albany, Sunday, Feb. 25, 1894.  The immediate cause of her death was heart failure, death coming suddenly, before many of her friends knew that she was sick.  She was the daughter of J.G. and Mary Patterson.  Her mother died when Ethel was but six years old.  She came to live with her aunt, Mrs. Peebles, and continued to make that her home until her death.  During the last two years she attended the Albany high school, teaching the summer term of her home district.  Her life was singularly pure and sweet and free from those petty annoyances that often accompany thoughtless childhood.  Care and love for those around her were her strongest traits of character, manifesting them in that way that binds heart to heart, whose severing alone reveals the depth of love unknown before.  Self, in all things, was her last thought, and so diligently and unassumingly did she pursue her mission of love that the few short years spent here has been as a benediction, blessed and blessing all who came into contact with her.  Men and women are said to be immortal until their work is done.  Thus has she lived her allotted time.  Taken from us in the flower of youth; but called hence to a higher, nobler life.  She was buried form the M.E. Church yesterday at 2:00 pm, her schoolmates attending in a body.  Many flowers and tokens of love were placed upon the casket by her friends who came to do honor to her memory.  H.B.W.

Ole PAULSON
Ole Paulsen died at his home near this place Sunday, April 23, 1899 aged a little over 79 years.  From early childhood he was a member of the Lutheran Church, faithful and devout, ever ready to work for the cause of his God.  His last longing wishes were to leave this vale of tears for the realm above and in this strong faith he passed away.  Thus our parting should not be sad.
Short is death and darkness; Endless, light and life; Short, dimming, endless; Shining in your sphere; Where all is incorruptible and pure—The joy without the pain, the smile without the tear.  The funeral was held at the Norwegian Church Tuesday, services being conducted by the Pastor Rev. Kvale, and the remains being interred in the Norwegian Cemetery.

Edwin M. PEEBLES
Edwin M. Peebles was born in Chautauqua Co., NY April 14, 1834.  He died Oct. 24, 1892 at his home in Albany, aged 58 years, 6 months and 10 days.  He moved with his father’s family to Michigan in 1843, and to Wisconsin in 1846, where he has since remained.  His wife, an adopted daughter, a sister and two brothers are left to mourn.  At mid-day on Oct. 29 the sad news of Mr. Peebles’ death came to the citizens of Albany and surrounding county.  While in the dooryard he dropped dead without a moment’s notice.  The high esteem in which Mr. Peebles was held was indicated by the large crowd of sympathizing friends on the day of the funeral.  Surely a good man has fallen.  But few men in their lifetime so fully exemplify the ideas of true morality.  A devoted husband—home was where he loved to be no charms of society ever won him from those who were united with him in the bond of kinship.  He was somewhat reticent by nature, yet everybody found in him a true friend.  No one knew him but to appreciate him.  His gentleness and kindness won for him a name that will endure through the unfolding ages.  Mr. Peebles was an intelligent man, able to talk upon the issues of the day.  His charity was just as deep as his nature; no worthy person ever asked in vain.  The funeral services were held at the M.E. Church on Wednesday, conducted by the Rev. H.A. Rogers, after which kind hands laid him to rest in the cemetery where his mortal remains await the coming of the resurrection.  H.A.R.

John Aaron PRYCE
Surnames: Pryce, Mitchell
Died—At the home of his parents, on the T.G. Mitchell farm on Friday, Sept. 21, 1900, John Aaron, elder son of George and Martha Pryce.  Just as he had reached the milestone in life’s highway that marks life’s meridian brightness his burden became more than he could bear.  He quietly and sweetly fell into that dreamless sleep to wake not till the Angel of the Resurrection shall call the muster roll of time.  He began his pilgrimage June 5, 1882, making him 18 years, 3 months and 16 days old.  The funeral services were held at the M.E. Church Saturday, Sept. 22 at 11:00 am.  Rev. H.B. Brenaman officiated by request of the deceased.  One of the longest pageants ever seen in Albany followed him to his last resting place.  Aaron was a good boy.  He loved his parents and his home.  His thought was pure and in his heart of hearts there was no guile.  His deportment as shown by his standing at school was perfect.  His ambition, as he had often expressed himself to us, was to get an education—cultivation of heart and brain.  H.B.B.

Hiram PUTNAM
Surnames: Putnam, Connet
Died at his residence on Monday, Jan. 2, 1893, Mr. Hiram D. Putnam, aged 66 years, 7 months and 1 day.  Hiram D. Putnam was born in Lancaster, Fairfield Co., Ohio, May 31, 1826.  At the age of 7 years, he moved with his parents to Newark, Licking Co., Ohio, where he grew to manhood.  In 1849 he came to Wisconsin with his parents where he engaged in teaching school winters and farming the remainder of the year.  He was married Dec. 18, 1856 to Sarah Connet, who was born in Licking Co., Ohio.  They settled on land that he had previously bought on section 4, of the town of Decatur, where he improved a large farm, partly in Albany, and partly in Decatur.  In 1871 he came to Albany and purchased land, which is within village limits, on which he built the fine brick residence, which he occupied at the time of his decease.  Mr. Putnam was one of the pioneers of this section, coming here at an early day.  By the hard labor and economy necessary at that period, he had amassed a handsome competence, and so used was he to work that he busied himself with his farms and gardens until about three months ago, when he was stricken with consumption of the stomach and bowels.  It may truly be said that he “died in the harness”.  In his death his family lose an affectionate father and husband and the community loses one of its best citizens.  The funeral services were held at his late residence at 10:00 today and the remains taken to the Dawson Cemetery on Jordan Prairie for interment.  The bereaved family has the deep sympathy of the entire community in their sorrow.
